In Bedford Troop 5, you'll find a fun and challenging Boy Scout experience!

Goals:

  • Emphasize scouting skills and spirit.
  • Provide a positive environment for learning and advancement.
  • Focus on enjoying the outdoors through camping, hiking, and backpacking.
  • Practice Patrol method with boys leading boys.

Our Troop offers scouts individual attention and the leadership opportunities necessary to help them grow and advance.

Mission of the BSA

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Adult Leadership Is Key

The Troop encourages adults to volunteer in a variety of rolls as either a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chair, Committee Member or as a Merit Badge Counselor.  All of these rolls play an intragral part in developing our youth towards meeting the mission of the BSA.  BSA training is required for all adult leadership positions to ensure that our youth are protected and safe.

Activities:
The scouts run the meetings, determine the yearly calendar, and plan all activities.  Fun activities include:

  • District Fall Camporee
  • White water rafting
  • Cape Cod campout and bike trip
  • Summer camp at Hidden Valley
  • Winter camping
  • Klondike Derby Competition
  • Waterville Valley ski trip
  • Philmont and Florida Sea Base High Adventure Camp
  • National Jamboree
  • World Jamboree

Fundraisers: 

  • Troop 5 Annual Yard Sale
  • Popcorn Sales
  • Hike-a-thon

Facts:

  • Organized in 1992 and sponsored by  Bedford Rotary Club
  • Reasonable Troop size
  • Patrols do not exceed 6-8 boys
  • Twenty eight Eagle scouts
  • Two Bronze Palm scouts
  • High percentage of adult participation 
Advancement:
The Boy Scout advancement program provides a ladder of skills that a scout climbs at his own pace.  Each rank has skills for the scout to learn.  Troop 5 leaders mentor scouts through the following ranks:

  • Tenderfoot
  • Second class
  • First Class
  • Star
  • Life
  • Eagle

When does Troop 5 meet?
Every Monday night, 6:30 to 8:00 pm on school days
Meetings held at Memorial School cafeteria, 55 Old Bedford Road, Bedford, NH
Troop meetings are planned and run by the youth leaders under the supervision of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters.  Parents and guardians are invited to stay and participate.
